Terms of Service
In plain terms. Expenseum is a record-keeping app. It tracks what you and your friends owe each other, but it never moves money. Your books are yours. Plus is billed by the App Store or Google Play and you can cancel it there at any time. Keep your own backups.
Agreeing to these terms
By installing or using Expenseum you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the app. These terms are between you and Appentium (“we”, “us”).
You must be at least 13 years old to use Expenseum, and old enough to enter a contract where you live if you buy a subscription.
Your account
Most of the app works with no account at all. If you create one, keep your credentials to yourself — you're responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at info@appentium.com if you think it's been compromised.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account.
Your data belongs to you
Your books, entries, notes and attachments are yours. We claim no ownership of them. We only process them to run the features you use — see the privacy policy for exactly what that means.
When you share a book, you're granting the other members of that book access to the content in it. Think before you add someone.
Expenseum Plus
- Plus is sold through the Apple App Store on iPhone and iPad, and through Google Play on Android. Prices are shown in your store's local currency before you buy.
- The 7-day pass is a one-off purchase and does not renew. The 30-day, 3-month, 6-month and 1-year plans are auto-renewing subscriptions.
- Payment is charged to your App Store or Google Play account at confirmation, and again at the start of each renewal period unless you cancel first. Auto-renewing plans renew within 24 hours of the end of the current period.
- Cancel any time. On iPhone or iPad: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Expenseum. On Android: Google Play → Subscriptions → Expenseum. Do it at least 24 hours before the period ends. Cancelling stops future charges; Plus stays active until the period you've paid for runs out.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own refund policies, not by us. We'll help where we can.
- Prices may change. We'll tell you before a change affects a renewal, and you can cancel if you don't want to continue.
- If Plus lapses, nothing is deleted. Your books stay exactly as they are; the Plus-only features simply lock until you resubscribe.
- A purchase made in one store unlocks Plus on the account you bought it with. We may change which features sit behind Plus over time.
Referral rewards
Sharing your referral code with someone who redeems it gives you both a limited period of Plus. Codes are for real people you know. Self-referral, bulk or automated redemption, fake accounts, spam and public posting to gain rewards are all off-limits — we may withdraw rewards, cancel codes or close accounts that abuse the programme, and we may change or end it at any time.
Split books are a record, not a payment service
This one matters. Expenseum records who paid, who owes and what's left to settle. It does not transfer, hold, or process money, and marking something “settled” in the app is only a note that you settled it somewhere else.
We're not a party to any debt between you and the people you split with, we don't guarantee anyone pays you back, and we can't arbitrate disagreements about a shared book. Balances depend entirely on what the members enter.
Expensight AI
The AI assistant produces answers from your data using a third-party model. It can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Check anything that matters before you rely on it, especially before it writes to your books — which is why “confirm before changes” is on by default. You're responsible for the changes you approve.
Not financial advice
Expenseum, its insights, forecasts, debt plans and AI replies are for information and personal record-keeping only. They are not financial, investment, tax, accounting or legal advice. Talk to a qualified professional before making decisions that matter, and don't rely on the app's reports as your sole record for tax or legal purposes.
Backups are your responsibility
Because your data lives on your device, a lost, stolen, broken or wiped phone means lost data unless you have a backup. We give you local and Google Drive backups, dated restore points and a 30-day recycle bin — please use them. We can't recover data we never had a copy of.
Acceptable use
Don't use Expenseum to break the law, and specifically don't:
- post content in the community forum that is unlawful, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, or that reveals other people's private information;
- spam the forum, or use it to advertise;
- send unwanted invitations or reminders to people who don't want them;
- reverse-engineer, decompile or attack the app or our servers, or try to reach data that isn't yours;
- resell, rent or redistribute the app or a Plus subscription.
Forum posts are visible to other users. We may remove content or restrict accounts that break these rules, and admins may reply publicly to posts.
Availability & changes
We update the app regularly and may add, change or retire features. Cloud-backed features depend on services we don't control, so we can't promise uninterrupted availability. We may suspend features to protect users or fix problems.
Warranty disclaimer
Expenseum is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't warrant that the app will be error-free, that calculations or forecasts will be accurate, or that it will meet your requirements.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or money you fail to recover from someone you split expenses with. Our total liability for any claim relating to Expenseum is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the 12 months before the claim.
Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited under the law that applies to you, and your statutory consumer rights are unaffected.
Apple-specific terms
If you downloaded Expenseum from the Apple App Store, the following also applies:
- These terms are between you and Appentium only — not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Expenseum.
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- Appentium, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claim relating to the app, including product liability, legal-compliance and intellectual-property claims.
- You confirm you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo, and that you are not on any U.S. Government prohibited-parties list.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
Termination
You can stop using Expenseum whenever you like by deleting your account and removing the app. We may suspend or terminate access if you materially break these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive — ownership, disclaimers, liability — survive termination.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [ set your jurisdiction ], and the courts there have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing in this section removes any protection you have under the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the current version, and we'll flag material changes in the app. Continuing to use Expenseum after a change means you accept it.
